The London Borough of Hillingdon has opened renewals for the 2026/27 Garden Waste Collection Service, at the revised price of £77 for the year (up from £70 last year). This year subscribers will have orange tags to put onto their garden waste bags.
2026/27 Garden Waste Subscriptions
- Annual fee: £77.00 for the year from 1st April 2026 (covering upto 6 bags).
- Schedule: Weekly collections in Spring, Summer, and Autumn; fortnightly in Winter.
- New tags: Once you renew, you will be sent orange identity tags to fix to your current canvas bags, replacing the green tags from last year.
- No tags again? The council says that if your tags haven’t arrived by your first April collection, you can still put your bags out. Crews will check their in-cab computers to verify your subscription.
How to Renew
You can renew your service online via the Hillingdon Council website or by calling 01895 556000.
Both existing subscribers who renew, and new subscribers may need to wait upto four weeks for their tags if they register after Wednesday 18th March, but collections will start the week after they pay – regardless of them having the tags or not.
Updated article
The original headline for this article was “Garden Waste subscriptions for 2026 are open now – but register before the end of Tuesday 17th March for collections in early April!” based on the original terms and conditions from Hillingdon Council.
On the evening of Tuesday 17th March, Cllr Wayne Bridges, the Cabinet Member for Environment & Communities gave this update to Oak Farm Residents’ Association, passed to us through the Hillingdon Alliance of Residents’ Associations:
I just wanted to offer a clarification, as some of the assumptions in the message may cause unnecessary concern for residents.
Although the current terms and conditions refer to collections beginning up to four weeks after payment, this reflects the maximum possible time for delivery of new tags rather than what normally happens in practice.
For residents renewing an existing subscription, collections will continue as usual as long as the current tags are still presented. There is no requirement to renew today to avoid a gap in service.
For new subscribers, collections will start once the new orange tags are received and displayed. Delivery can take up to 28 days, but many arrive sooner.
I have instructed officers to review the wording in the T&Cs so that it better reflects how the service actually operates throughout the renewal period.
I hope this helps residents make informed decisions without feeling pressured by the impression that collections will automatically stop if payment is not made today.

Garden Waste subscriptions for 2026 are open now – but register before the end of Tuesday 17th March for collections in early April!
The London Borough of Hillingdon has opened renewals for the 2026/27 Garden Waste Collection Service, but residents should take note of the terms and conditions and register straight away if they want to maintain regular collections.
Why you should renew by tomorrow (17th March)
To ensure your garden waste collections continue without interruption from 1st April, you must renew your subscription no later than Tuesday 17th March.
According to the council’s terms (Clause 3.2), any subscription purchased after 17th March will not commence until four weeks following the date of payment. This means if you wait until Wednesday to pay, your first collection might not take place until mid-April, leaving you with full bags for several weeks.
